Agra & Khajuraho: Tombs, Temples, Forts, and Holi Festival

August 26, 2019 by Kameri Leave a Comment

As we continued on our India trip with Gate 1 Travel, we headed to Agra for the Taj Mahal (obviously!), the Agra Fort, the Baby Taj... and lucky for us, it happened to be the holiday of Holi! After Agra we traveled on to Khajuraho to check out some amazing Hindu temples, some displaying erotic visions of the  Karma Sutra. We left the pink city of Jaipur on our private bus and headed towards Agra. We had two stops on our journey, the first was a locally run school. This school was started …

Jaipur – The Pink City of India

August 9, 2019 by Kameri Leave a Comment

It took almost 7 hours in our bus to reach Jaipur from New Delhi. The journey was filled with plenty of traffic, honking, and cows started appearing in the streets just outside the city of Delhi.  We stopped and watched a few men with carts selling bananas for the macaque monkeys surrounding them.  People buy and feed the bananas to the monkeys.. as well as a few cows hanging around. It is believed that feeding the monkeys brings you good luck.  Entering Jaipur, red flowers …

India… First Stop Delhi

August 6, 2019 by Kameri Leave a Comment

Delhi was the first stop on our trip to India. After years of talking about it, a co-worker/friend and I finally made it to India. We started our trip with a tour with Gate 1 Travel which led us through Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Khajuraho, and Varanasi. Then we headed to Rishikesh on our own. We arrived at the New Delhi airport in the evening, made our way through customs, and found a taxi.  It was a long ride to our hotel and traffic was CRAZY (at least compared to American …

Shanghai Stopover

June 9, 2019 by Kameri Leave a Comment

Did you know that if you have a long layover in Shanghai, you can check out this Chinese city without applying for a visa?   I found an amazing fare to India... but it had an 8 hour layover in Shanghai each way.  I stumbled across some info on 24 hour -144 hour transit waivers/visas.  All you need to do is fill out a departure card, show your onward ticket, and go through customs.   Once through customs... we boarded the Maglev Train (a high speed train that takes you …

Antarctica: Cruising to the final continent with Hurtigruten

April 15, 2019 by Kameri Leave a Comment

When I was 16, I left the North American continent for the first time with my mom on a tour to Europe. In the last decade we started traveling together again. We first ventured off to Asia, then Africa, Oceana, and recently South America. Now we finish off with the final continent: Antarctica! We explored the frozen continent with the Norwegian cruise company: Hurtigruten in December of 2018. Day 1:  At 2 pm we boarded the Midnatsol and got to know the ship.  Just after 8 pm we set …

Stopover in Santiago de Chile

March 14, 2019 by Kameri Leave a Comment

On a brief stop-over in Santiago de Chile we managed to see a few of the city’s highlights. A couple famous hills, the Plaza de Armas, and Palacio de La Moneda... as well as a cab ride we should have avoided. After checking in and dropping off our bags, we headed out to Cerro San Cristobal (San Cristobal Hill). You can drive, hike, or bike up this hill, but we chose to ride the funicular up. It’s famous for awesome views of the city with the mountains rising up behind it.  We …
