We spent an incredible 8 days on safari in northern Tanzania in October of 2024. This truly was an epic adventure! I have gone on safari in South Africa, Botswana, and Kenya in the past and they were all great. Tanzania was something extra special though. I never expected to have so many incredible wildlife sightings, one after another, during this trip. The Serengeti was especially magical and is my new favorite safari destination. Our safari included Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater all in about a week. We traveled with the company Safari 360. They did a great job organizing and executing our Tanzania safari. Below …

Hiking over Kearsarge Pass to Kearsarge Lakes
Kearsarge Lakes are 3 lakes nestled at the bottom of a valley in the Sierra Mountains of California. To reach these beautiful lakes requires a hike over Kearsarge Pass. While it’s possible to do this hike as a long day hike, I recommend taking a few days to really enjoy the scenery and cope with the altitude. We did this hike over 4 days including the 6+ hour drive each way from Southern California. Kearsarge Lakes Day 1: Hike from Onion Valley Campground to Gilbert Lake Leaving San Diego around 6 am, we arrived at Onion Valley Campground around 12:30 pm. We left our car in the parking lot (free of charge), gathered up our packs, and began our hike on the Kearsarge Pass …

What to do in Valley of Fire
Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada is full of stunning red rocks and even some petroglyphs from over 2,000 years ago. Many of these beautiful structures can be seen from the roads that cross through the park. Short hikes offer viewpoints of varying landscapes throughout the valley. Here are the top things to do and see in Valley of Fire. Driving into Valley of Fire as the sun starts to rise. In 1912 a road named the Arrowhead Trail that connected Salt Lake City to Los Angeles was constructed. This road passed through what’s now the state park. In the 1920s, a AAA official traveling along the Arrowhead Trail at sunset named the area "Valley of Fire". This official said it looked like …
Belize: Cave tubing in San Ignacio and taking it too slow in Caye Caulker
On this short trip to Belize, we only spent 2 nights in San Ignacio and then headed to the island of Caye Caulker for 5 nights. In retrospect, 5 nights on Caye Caulker was far too many and we wish we had spent more time in San Ignacio. San Ignacio After leaving Tikal and riding in a local bus to the border with Belize, we passed through immigration and grabbed a taxi to the nearby town of San Ignacio. We only booked two nights in San Ignacio, so we had to pick only one activity while in the area. We chose to book a cave tubing tour in the Nohoch Che’en Branch Archeaological Reserve for our one full day here. Both mornings we headed to the San Ignacio Market for breakfast. Here …
